Vertical bucket conveyor

Vertical bucket conveyor,

Vertical bucket elevators make it possible, as the name suggests, to transport bulk products vertically. They are often used in the agricultural sector to transport seeds but are also popular in the metal industry. In this article, we will take a closer look at the vertical bucket elevator and give you all the important and relevant information:

  • How does a vertical bucket elevator work?

  • Where are vertical bucket elevators used?

  • What are the types of vertical bucket elevators?

How does a vertical bucket conveyor work?

As the name already reveals: a vertical bucket elevator is a lift that transports bulk goods vertically by buckets. These buckets are attached to a chain. Bucket elevators are very similar to vertical conveyors, with the big difference that bucket elevators transport with buckets and not with belts.

The lift's buckets scoop up the materials and then transport them vertically upwards. After this, the materials will be unloaded and then the buckets go back down to pick up the next load.

Where are vertical bucket conveyors used?

Bucket lifts are typically used to transport fragile bulk materials. Especially the agricultural, metal, cosmetic, chemical, ceramic, glass and pharmaceutical industries use bucket lifts a lot as they transport a lot of materials that need to be handled with care, for example:

  • cereals;

  • coffee;

  • Sugar;

  • rice;

  • beans;

  • animal feed;

  • peanuts;

  • seeds;

  • tea.

What are the types of vertical bucket elevators?

Bucket lifts are divided into three types:

  • Centrifugal Discharge elevators;

  • Continuous Discharge elevators;

  • Positive Discharge Elevators.

The Centrifugal Discharge elevator is the best known and most frequently used. This bucket lift delivers its load using centrifugal force. Continuous Discharge Elevators work in a similar way, but rely on gravity to unload materials from their buckets. Positive Discharge Elevators work much the same as Discharge elevators, but use mechanical trippers to release materials.
